The Tri Bra: Sports Bras for Triathlons

It Feels Different Because It Is Different.®

Are you a triathlete who competes in a women’s triathlon program? There is perhaps no other athletic competition where clothing is so critical and so complex. To be your very best and compete at the highest level, the clothing you choose to wear is a key decision. And for women triathletes, this includes your sports bra! If you’re like many women, and especially those involved in women’s triathlons, you’ve tried many different brands in a search to find the perfect high-performance tri bra. Yet, they all seem to fall short in one way or another, don’t they? We’d like to introduce you to the SugarSports SugarShock® sports bra, and we promise — it’s a game-changer!

The SugarShock sports high-impact tri bra will be your “secret power” at your next women’s triathlon competition. The difference is control. Our SugarShock bra is designed and engineered to control and reduce the movement of breast weight, which is the reason why breasts bounce as you run and engage in other high-impact activities. The patented design features an engineered Control Band that’s specifically stitched into the body of the bra to eliminate the movement and make you more comfortable during triathlon training and competitions.

Athletic Clothing and the Special Challenges of a Triathlon

During a challenging women’s division triathlon (and your triathlon training), a high-impact tri bra is an essential piece of equipment. It’s as important as the rest of your gear — a women’s triathlon suit or shorts and top, wetsuit, triathlon shoes, helmet, goggles — and it has the potential to either slow you down or greatly enhance your performance. The changing environment and different activities make this sport unique and puts a greater demand on your clothing. Your tri bra, like the rest of your triathlon clothing, must seamlessly transition from swimming to cycling to running. This means that it has to be fast-drying, moisture wicking, form-fitting and lightweight yet supportive.

Aerodynamics (in water and air), utility and comfort are key considerations. In fact, aerodynamics is such an important issue for athletes who are trying to lower wind resistance while running, that there have been studies about this. Smoothly styled, form fitting clothing will keep you flexible and comfortable during a triathlon, as well as keep wind resistance to an absolute minimum. The last thing you need on race day is to be distracted by your chest during the running portion, and this is especially an issue for women with larger cup sizes. Add “control of movement” to the list of triathlon clothing requirements. The SugarShock sports bra come through on all those issues, with an A++.

SugarShock Delivers on the Key Requirements of a Tri Bra

At SugarSports, we strive to support women’s sports and individual accomplishment by helping every athlete to be her absolute best. Our innovative SugarShock sports bra meets and exceeds triathlon requirements, making it without question the best women’s tri bra on the market. We don’t say that lightly.

Advanced Design – Our next-generation tri bra, with its patented Shock Band technology and superb craftsmanship, controls breast movement and stops breast movement to improve concentration while training and during triathlon competitions. The SugarShock bra is engineered to reduce motion, allowing you to focus.

Moisture Wicking Fabric – The material used for our SugarShock bra is moisture wicking, which means that the fabric moves moisture (sweat) away from the body, which then evaporates. The result is that you stay dry and cool. A non-wicking fabric (like cotton) holds onto sweat, which can make clothing clammy, heavy and uncomfortable. A moisture wicking material, like Lycra, is moisture wicking and breathable, letting sweat out and air in. This type of material, which is what we use for our sports bra, also dries quickly — a must for a women’s tri bra. The bra will dry quickly after your swimming competition, so that you can be comfortable and ready to go for the cycling and running portions.

Smooth, Sleek and Snug Yet Comfortable Fit – The SugarShock bra fits smoothly and snugly against the body, with no hardware like zippers or adjustable straps to get in your way or irritate your skin. It’s a sleek design that’s both attractive and amazingly comfortable, with the flexibility to perfectly match your moves.

Complete Coverage – The revolutionary SugarShock sports bra includes extra coverage in the front to accommodate women with a larger cup size and for greater comfort and better fit for all women’s triathlon enthusiasts.

Unrestrictive Optional Back Pocket – Even if your tri suit has a pocket or two, this can be distracting during competitions. The SugarShock pink and white models include a convenient pocket on the back that’s great for your gels, gloves, key or phone. It keeps stuff out of the way, so it won’t slow you down, yet it’s easy to reach.

The SugarShock High-Impact Sports Bra – Designed by a Triathlon Athlete!

SugarSports, LLC was founded by triathlon athlete, Trish Hawkins. But that’s not all. Trish happens to be a 34DD triathlon athlete, so she knew better than anyone the challenge of finding a women’s tri bra that works for the rigors of triathlon training and competition. Her journey as an inventor began with her frustration that she could not find a triathlon bra that met her needs, as a large-breasted woman and triathlon athlete. Instead of giving up, she built her own!

There was a good deal of trial and error and she tried different designs, making the same mistakes that other manufactures do when designing women’s clothing and especially sports bras. In attempting to control unwanted bounce, she tried to add greater compression, added encapsulation in the form of separate cups and tightened the rib cage band, but none of that worked to stop breast motion. With each modification, she would test it herself, during her training and on runs. She went even further, researching medical diagrams and anatomical drawings, in her efforts to learn how the female body is constructed, how breast tissue is made and how it connects.

During this time, Trish was working for a steel-structure engineering company. It occurred to her that perhaps she was going about this challenge in the wrong way, and she wondered how the problem would be addressed in her business. She then had a novel idea — to add a shock absorber to the sports bra! Unlike a vehicle’s shock absorber, made of steel, this would be a “shock band” made from material that could be hand-sewn into the bra design. Her exact words were: “It was like a light went off!” She went for a run to try it out and, to her amazement, it worked! Through Trish’s efforts, she had discovered the difference between a support bra and a bra that could absorb and redistribute breast weight, thereby eliminating jiggle and bounce.

The very first SugarShock high-impact sports bra was custom made for Trish, and she choose the finest fabrics that were extremely soft and smooth. She had created her “dream bra.” Needless to say, once her fellow athletes heard about her invention, they wanted to try it. And that was how SugarSports was born. It was and remains Trish’s mission, to introduce her bold and innovative sports bra to the women’s athletic clothing marketplace, so that female athletes could enhance their athletic performance.
